The Saudi Sustainability Certificate is a certificate for assessing the sustainability of buildings and communities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is issued by the Sustainable Building Program of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing. The Saudi Sustainability Certificate aims to promote the concept of sustainability in residential, commercial and community projects, by assessing their sustainability according to environmental standards that raise their operational efficiency, improve the quality of life for residents and visitors, and reduce the damage of construction waste and materials to the environment. Buildings and communities for the design and construction phases are evaluated and categorized into five levels according to points scored, starting from 20 points for the green level and up to 80 points or more for the diamond level.

 

The Saudi Sustainability certification is based on
a set of environmental standards, which include:

  • Energy: Energy efficiency, use of renewable energy sources.
  • Water: Water use efficiency, water reuse, wastewater treatment.
  • Materials: Sustainable use of materials, waste management.
  • Health and well-being: Indoor air quality, natural ventilation, and accessibility.
  • Society and Economy: Community Contribution and Sustainable Economic Development.
